I think one of Jung's most fascinating areas of research was personality typology, based on 4 functions, in which we are usually dominate in one of the two in each area:
1. Introversion/Extroversion (this one is not a preference, but an orientation) 2. Sensing/INtuitive (intuitive is designated with an "N") 3. Thinking/Feeling 4. Perceiving/Judging (these words used in this context are not defined as we usually define them, but mean something entirely different) Your type is designated with 4 letters. There are costly tests (such as Myers Briggs) that are patterned after Jung's research, but there are also a few free online ones that are similar enough. This is a very flawed inexact science, but I still think it might be fun to find out which personality type everyone on the forum tests as. Misstyping is common. You should come out with the same or a similar results from each of these tests. The questions can be confusing, are based on some incorrect myths, are not specific enough (just answer what you would do most often, in most situations, because there are always exceptions), and poorly worded. If you understand what the questions is trying to ask, that makes it easier, so if you're not sure, ask me. I've done a lot of research on this topic. Answer according to your natural inclination, and do not be influenced by how you'd like to be; in other words, avoid the tendency to answer toward your imagined, idealized self. I prefer the questions that allow you to rate the strength of your tendency, instead of just a yes/no answers, but taking all the tests helps to gauge how consistent your results are. Be careful of double negatives; for example, a question such as "I do not like .... ", which gives a choice of yes or no. If you "do not like" whatever it's asking, your answer would be "yes", not "no". Read the questions and select your answers very carefully, otherwise the results will be compromised. Here are several assessments: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp http://similarminds.com/jung.html http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/jungiantypestest.html http://kisa.ca/personality/ This site requires you to start an account, but it's really quick and easy: http://www.mypersonality.info/personality-types/ This is my favorite assessment; you can select up to 2 choices for each answer, but only if needed: http://www.discordia-inc.co.uk/misc/mbtitest.html Pay attention to your percentage results for each function, because you may be very close to the middle (50%/50% or 60%/40%, which indicates only a mild preference, or none at all--balanced). If you are 50%/50% on one of the functions, it will still choose a letter for you, but that might be inaccurate, so watch for that. If you come out balanced, then you are actually known as an "x" in the category, which means you use both functions equally. Some of the type descriptions online are very poorly written and not completely accurate, so keep that in mind too. Oh, and one last thing. Two people of the same type are not necessarily alike. No one can be put into a box. We are all individuals. So, though there may be similarities, this only indicates your dominate cognitive functions, and does not define everything that you are. I'm an INTP, but very close to an INxP. I use both my thinking and feeling functions almost equally (just slightly dominate in T), so I also have some characteristics of an INFP. I'm curious to see what the rest of you are. ![]() Last edited by Epiphany : 04-06-2010 at 09:16 PM. |

At any rate, I'm an INTP, through and through.I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Iacchus is an I**P. I'm not absolutely positive about his S/N and T/F functions, but I'm positive he is "I" and "P". If I had to guess, I'd say there is a very high probability that Iacchus is an INTP too (but INFP is a lesser possibility). I don't really see him as a S type at all. Looks like I'm the only one who's interested in this stuff, so I'll continue to talk to myself here. ![]() Last edited by Epiphany : 05-09-2010 at 02:19 PM. |
